Goldwater Marlborough Pinot Noir 2006
The 2006 season provided cooler spring weather resulting in smaller than average yields due to the lower fruit set. The summer and early autumn weather was warm and dry, ideal for ripening the grapes. The result was high quality fruit with concentrated flavours and excellent structure.
| Wine: | Goldwater Marlborough Pinot Noir |
Harvest Detail:
The fruit which produced the 2006 Goldwater Pinot Noir was hand picked from low yielding, high quality vineyards in Marlborough.
Fermentation Technique:
After traditional hand plunging techniques to extract colour and tannin during fermentation, this Pinot Noir was aged in French oak barriques for 9 months.
Tasting Note:
The Goldwater 2006 Pinot Noir shows all the hallmarks of the excellent 2006 vintage in Marlborough. The wine has lifted aromas of cherry and red fruits with subtle hints of smoky oak. On the palate the wine is distinctively varietal, with fruit flavours of raspberry and cherry, a finely textured palate and a lingering finish. The fine grained tannin structure and integrated oak would indicate the potential for medium term cellaring.
